The City Centre Survey

This report follows on from an activity entitled, ‘Photographing Wolverhampton’ where women from the Design Group, including some with physical or learning disabilities, were given disposable cameras to photograph what was good or not so good about the city centre. We used some of the photos to form a display and created a questionnaire to ask others and especially women about their views of the City Centre.

115 questionnaires have been completed, 85 during a session at a stall in Wolverhampton’s Wulfrun Centre and the remaining 20 from a cross section of women who agreed to complete a form; this included a group of people with learning difficulties who completed their forms during 2 facilitated sessions at day centres using an accessible form survey created by WVSC Advocacy Team for people with learning disabilities.

The raw results have been included in the report and are also shown as graphs.

The survey makes several interesting points regarding women’s views of the City Centre. The survey could be continued to create a larger sample. Some men (often with a woman) were keen to complete a form when we were in the Wulfrun Centre so these were included. Also the learning disability groups were men and women so both were included in the results.

We intend to share the survey results with decision makers and hope they can be used to make the City Centre better for women in future.
