NCT (National Childbirth Trust)

Aims

The National Childbirth Trust wants all parents to have an experience of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood that enriches their lives and gives them confidence in being a parent.

• We offer information and support in pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood.
• We campaign to improve maternity care and ensure better services and facilities for new parents.
• We aim to give every parent the chance to make informed choices.
• We want to make sure that everyone has access to our services and activities.
We are a membership charity with over 70,000 members across the UK. Our strength comes from the dedication of our volunteers, who work through our network of branches to provide and support local services, training and evidence-based information for parents, families and health professionals. We are trusted and respected by health professionals and governments as an organisation that represents the needs of parents.
Our work is funded through membership fees, fundraising activities and the delivery of our services.

Services

We provide support and evidence-based information in pregnancy, birth and early days of parenthood.

We campaign at local and national level to improve the services and facilities for new parents, and provide essential services and information to give them a chance to make informed choices.

We have branches throughout the UK, and most of the local support can be gained through our network of volunteer-run branches.

We deliver Antenatal education classes, Breastfeeding sessions and Postnatal support sessions locally.

WE also provide training opportunities to work for the NCT, as well as delivering tailor made training courses for children centres, PCT and other health organisations.

Our parent-centered approach is particularly helpful in engaging hard-to-reach groups and we have developed a wide range of skills through our partnerships with local organisations and courses tailored to parents' needs, including black and minority ethnic families and young parents.

We also run the Pregnancy and Birth Line and the Breastfeeding Line to support parents for free.

We publish our free Bumps & Babies magazine for expectant parents.
