African Women of Substance
Aims
AWS is a community based organization which offers support and information services to African women and their families. Our main aim is to facilitate the integration and full participation of African women into the community.
We provide immigrant women from diverse backgrounds with the opportunity to meet new people, make friends, and practice conversational English. Many women benefit fom the relaxed social environment, which enables them to discuss concerns and share advice about health, parenting and adjusting to life in th UK.
Services
- Orientation of newcomers to the community.
- Assisting immigrant women in accessing available community services.
- Providing emotional and family support in case of crisis (domestic violence, serious illness, death in the family).
- Information and documentation assistance pertaining to immigration, settlement and citizenship.
- Social, cultural and recreational activities to overcome social isolation and provide informal support.
- Children's activities; Arts & Crafts, Cooking and Stories.
- Providing free and impartial confidential advice services for an individual, family or group.
- Facilitating health forums and information sessions on issues affecting women.
